Dry Needling
Acupuncture specifically applied to motor points to address muscle tension and trigger points.
What is Dry Needling?
Dry needling is acupuncture specifically applied to motor points. Motor points are locations where nerves enter muscles, making them particularly responsive to needle insertion.
This technique uses the same thin, sterile needles as traditional acupuncture, inserted directly into motor points to address muscle tension, trigger points, and musculoskeletal concerns.
How Dry Needling Works
When a needle is inserted at a motor point, it can create what’s called a “twitch response” – a brief, involuntary muscle contraction. This response indicates the muscle is releasing tension and beginning to reset its normal function.
The precision of needle placement at these specific motor points allows for targeted treatment of areas where muscles may be tight, restricted, or holding tension patterns.
When Dry Needling May Be Used
Dr. Spinali may incorporate dry needling as part of your acupuncture treatment based on your specific presentation and how your body responds during assessment. The decision to use dry needling is made individually for each patient and each treatment session.
Like all modalities at Red Crane Wellness, dry needling is used at the discretion of the acupuncturist when it may support your overall treatment plan.
